Weekend plans

Tonight I will claim my apple loaner. Later I will stay over at Scott’s. In between I wish to do reading. Serenity will have to wait until the fan boys leave. Tomorrow afternoon, there will be gaming on boards at my place. Tomorrow evening will be Scott’s farewell party. Sunday afternoon, I will be watching “Paradise Now”, a fictional movie about two Palestinian suicide bombers, with some humphrey-ites and (and likely his bf, ?). I don’t think this will be a weekend where I catch up on reading enough to rationalize resubbing to ffxi. But perhaps.

Other things of interest include Nepalese economic development tourism which Joe pointed me to. It looks a little funky, but possibly quite interesting. I probably wouldn’t want to take so much time off until a break between classes (ie, december at the earliest).

Hmmm, something to consider.

For those wondering: Hellbent

I did see Hellbent. What an amazing piece of cinem… Oh, wait, wrong movie. Yeah, I kinda regret the two hours lost from my life never to be retrieved, but if you’re more prone to oggling muscular shirtless guys than I, or have a gore fixation, you may well like this movie. It has several standard jump moments. It’s kinda like a not-as-well-done Scream for the gay crowd. More or less what one would expect from the preview.

And I was 8 minutes late to class this morning. I think I’m going to start aiming for 15 minutes early and see if that gets me there on time. =)

Biodiesel in MN

Well, MN will soon start requiring biodiesel in it’s diesel. This boosts the relevance of my proposed community development project (A feasibility study for biodiesel in MN) tremendously. Sweet. I had the feeling I’d picked an impractical, irrelevant pet project that no one would ever take seriously. This helps me feel a little better about things.

Laptop update: Kiss that data goodbye

Well, my laptop was boxed up in Houston with the monitor repaired and sent off to MN. That’s the good news. That’s the only good news.

When the package got to the store in Edina, it had been busted open and retaped with my laptop nowhere to be found. Thank you, DHL. So, the apple store says it’s going to take an additional week to get my laptop replaced, but that I can get a loaner in the meantime. ??? Why not just give me the fucking loaner?

Okay, leaving that aside, time for an assessment of loss. I don’t know when the last time I did a full backup was, but it was shortly before I left Chicago. Probably around the time of the great laptop dvd-drive replacement. I did fortunately back up my class related stuff right before sending out the laptop for repair. And my porn downloads went to my backup drive after the aforementioned dvd drive replacement. Whoopee? So the main thing I’ll be missing are a month and a half of adium chat logs. That is a source of sadness, but not an insurmountable one. That and the time to configure my system the way I want it. Install software, download patches, etc, etc. Next time they send some of my hardware off for repair, they should give me the hard drive and send the rest.

I lose nowhere near as recently did. Perhaps that is the reason I am not filled with rage. Frustration, annoyance, yes. Rage, no.
