If I had to pick one song as my theme song, it would be “Finding Me” by Vertical Horizon, but I’m not sure it’s my favorite per se,
I’m such a pop-music whore =)
Vertical Horizon: Finding Me
Tori Amos: China & Gun in her hand
Third Eye Blind: Jumper
They Might Be Giants: Birdhouse in your soul
Starship: We built this city
Sister Hazel: Your Winter
Simon and Garfunkel: Bridge over troubled water
Sarah McLachlan: Building a mystery
Rent: (in general) and, in specific “Will I”, “What You Own”, “One Song Glory”
Primitive Radio Gods: Outside a Broken Phonebooth with change in hand
Nena: 99 Red Balloons
Les Miz: One day more
Joan Jett: Bad Reputation
Indigo Girls: where to begin? virginia woolf, midnight train to georgia, closer to fine, kid fears, and so many more.
Goldfinger: open your eyes
Enya: May it be
Dolly Parton: 9-5
Aha: take on me
And that song from Miss Saigon, where she’s ‘discussing’ her baby with her ex-fiance. Gives me goosebumps.
Favorite bands
Vertical Horizon (even before I discovered that their band leader is in fact not hideous, but hot)
Indigo Girls (favorites from my early high school years, thank you, Liz)
Tori Amos
Sarah McLachlan
U2
VNV Nation
Third Eye Blind
Simon & Garfunkel
Also, Rent, Miss Saigon, & Les Mis.
Anyone who does not recognise the brilliance of ‘9 to 5’ needs a whap upside the head. Preferably delivered by Miss Parton herself.
There are many artists on that list whose music I enjoy. And there’s bugger all else by Dolly Parton that I know. But that song always, and I mean always, makes me happy to listen to the travails of the working day.
I caught the Dolly concert in Lowell, MA last week, and she told lots of stories and gossipy secrets. Apparently she made the typewriter sounds at the beginning of “9-5” using her fingernails!
