shooting fish in a barrel

Who pays for this? Our kids? The weak dollar is directly traceable to our entitlement over-spending and borrowing from foreign countries to pay for it. How long before we fix it? One thing is for sure, the world markets will fix it for us if we don’t fix it ourselves!

What currencies is the dollar weak with respect to? What are entitlement expenditures like under the governments that control those currencies? HTH, HAND

Fun on the American River (South Fork)

I went with SF Gay Hikers to the south fork of the American River near Sacramento. Lots of folks out, though we appeared to be the only people out there without booze or small children. Had a great time, lots of hanging out, not alot to do, so we swam, did a couple dives off a low cliff (mostly cannonballs, but also a very weak front tuck), shot the breeze. A good time was had by all. lots of playing in the water and swimming alongside the boat. The lack of trunks wasn’t so much a problem, but the lack of appropriate shoes did suck. Walking barefoot on rocks, not fun. =)

I did get a nice sunburn on my upper chest, back and shoulders. Not too bad, should be down to barely noticable by monday. Fun times.

Later on in the evening, went to a board game night with fellow hiker/rafters. I played seafarers of catan for the first time. It’s more interesting than settlers, I think, but it still suffers from all the same problems: excessive randomness, too much time spent trying to make deals (though I do like that interactive aspect of the game), and run away victor problems.

We had very tasty sushi from mikado. I felt kinda bossy and like a know it all, in that I chose where we ordered, and (at his request) what to order for this one guy, as well as giving a quick run down on all the games I bought (I’m way more hardcore as a board gamer than these folks, though not as good at catan, which was kinda what I expected. =) Our hosts had purchased cupcakes from nearby, including a very, very tasty lemonade cupcake.

Need to shower soon for ‘s and ‘s wedding dealy. =)

I’d probably make good foie gras

So, the doc says my elevated liver enzymes are probably due to fatty liver.

What this can eventually lead to:

Fatty liver may cause no damage, but sometimes the excess fat leads to inflammation of the liver. This condition, called steatohepatitis, does cause liver damage.[…]

An inflamed liver may become scarred and hardened over time. This condition, called cirrhosis, is serious and often leads to liver failure.

Things I’m supposed to do about this:

  • Lose weight – safely! That usually means losing no more than one or two pounds a week.
    • I am so not obese. But I now have something to wave at my friends who say “pishposh, you don’t need to lose weight, you anorexic queen.” “fuck you, I don’t want to die any earlier than I have to.”
  • Lower your triglycerides through diet, medication or both
    • Mine are 24x, 200-500 is high. This means avoid cholesterol and eat fewer calories. Especially fat, saturated fat, and see below.
  • Avoid alcohol
    • I’m a lightweight, whom, by the standards of most people I hang out with, barely drinks. But even small amounts are bad. Lovely. Well, So be it.
  • Control your diabetes, if you have it
    • My blood sugar is normal, but that’s getting to be a rarity in my family.
  • Eat a balanced, healthy diet
    • Busted. More veggies, fewer boca burgers. But that’s hard. Le sigh
  • Increase your physical activity
    • I may have to enter into permanent triathlon training mode. On the plus side, if I ever do an Iron Man, most people will not know whether to think I’m crazy or awesome and studly. Probably both. I’ll just think I’m crazy.
  • Get regular checkups from a doctor who specializes in liver care
    • That’ll be the next step

The “good” news is that most of the steps involved also help with the other whammy for me, heart disease.

Screw stem cells, I want gene cleansing therapy and I want it now. =)

safe & sound in SF

I am now here, in Hayes Valley at le chateau de and . As previously mentioned, Saturday I go rafting with t3h gays and Sunday my esteemed hosts are getting hitched. Some plans for mon-wed.

I have no board gaming arranged yet, despite going to considerable trouble to pack Puerto Rico, Citadels, Thurn und Taxis, Race for the Galaxy, Mu, Tichu, and Pillars of the Earth. Hopefully some of my effort will be rewarded.

um, whee.

I should go upstairs at some point and say high to

Vancouver reservations

There’s a hostel available for about $28/night in vancouver around the time of the triathlon near. Should I go with that, or attempt to mooch off of nice lj people? I’d usually go with the latter, because I would always rather spend quality time with people I like (or think I’ll like) rather than twiddle my thumbs in a hotel room or equivalent. The money isn’t a big deal. I’ll pay about as much to rent a bike while out there.

travel time dilemma

I have two options for my travel to SF. I can either go friday, and miss ‘s volleyball bbq thing, but make the sf gay hiking thing on saturday morning, where I would likely get to see Marco, whom I haven’t seen in a year? several months at the very least. Or I can go on Saturday and trade off the things I get to do. Currently both tickets are purchased. Whichever one I don’t use gets tossed back into the pool of usable southwest travel funds/voucher trips. I <3 southwest. I'll talk it over with tomorrow (this) evening at board games.

Btw, my sleep schedule = totally fucked. Am I that nervous about my upcoming performance review or is this related to completely overloading my digestive system with nummy food last night? Hmmm.

Or maybe I just need to exercise more. Monday, I exercised lots. Tuesday, basically not at all. Feeling very jittery.

ETA: Oh, duh, it’s probably the half gallon of chocolate soy milk that I drank mostly by myself. Let this be a lesson to you. Drugs are bad, m’kay? =)
