Conference commutes

Ewww, it’s over 40 minutes (!?!) to get to station square of a morning from the CMU area by public transportation. It’s 5 miles away. Here in chicago, on the train, I travel about 10 miles with a transfer, in under an hour. *Le Sigh* Rental car is cheaper than hotel. I wonder if I could get a bike and commute via the jail trail. Or maybe just bring my skates. Low tech sustainability in action. =)

the line I didn’t include in my ad

Smokers and homophobes are welcome to look somewhere else. Preferably far away. I suggest Zimbabwe (low rent, favorably exchange rate, tropical climate, the benefits go on and on…) For unabashed Bush voters, I recommend Baghdad. That’s where my dad is, because of you. Way to go.

It just seemed counter productive.

Here’s the actual ad.

Pittsburgh Plans

On my birthday, the day after my housewarming/bday party, I’m flying out to Pittsburgh for a week. Partially for an environmental tech conference. Need to figure out where I’ll be staying. Want to have easy access to station square at least Sunday through Wednesday for the conference. Don’t really want to stay in a hotel, because that would put me far from most of my friends in town.

Then there’s the brownfields development conference that’s at the same time as Carnival.

Total registration fees, $700. Flight, $160. Lodging? Depends if I’m a friend loving mooch on someone’s couch, or an anti-social spendthrift, and get a hotel. Transportation, public, rental car, or taxi, hmmm….

What really sucks about a brand, spanking new apartment (see last post) is the massive expense and inconvenience of acquiring furniture and kitchenwares, and moving them in. Speaking of which, can I get some help moving my shit into the new place on the weekend of the 23rd – 25th? (I’ll get more specific when the time gets closer).

I also need to get new clothes (running out of work outfits), particularly pants. If anyone enjoys suggesting what sorts of pants I should wear, and/or how I should decorate my place, you’re welcome to go shopping with me, so long as you can accept that there is a limit to how much I want to spend and that I will be final arbiter of what I will actually end up purchasing and wearing/decorating with. 😉
