Cleaned the living room and my bedroom last night, got the chips, pretzel bits, fruit, juice, stuff for guac, baked a cake, still need to make sweet potato/black bean burritos, bake another cake, pick up hummus & pita from open flame or somewhere, ice both cakes, clean kitchen and bathroom. That should be doable, right? =)
a lot of work
That’s a lot of work for your own birthday party! How many guests?
Moose is in charge of cooking for our upcoming party (yay!), I have to clean up my apartment (before & after) and provide alcohol.
Re: a lot of work
That’s why I occasionally fantasize about a surprise party. Unfortunately the social circles I run in are pretty disjoint for that, so nobody would know who all to invite, and besides, I don’t know alot of people who’d know how to make a vegan cake. In essence, I’d have to hand someone an invitation list, and a few cookbooks, and say “surprise me”, which would be rather lame. =)
Out of the 40ish, invited, I’ve recieved like 8 yes’s, 6 clueless’s, 4 no’s, and 22 no rsvps. (numbers are pulled fresh from my ass =)
Re: a lot of work
Getting people to say “yes” (or even to say “no”) is a lot of work 😉
Even I have baked a vegan cake 🙂 But, please don’t ask me how, or what the ingredients were. I followed directions.
Re: a lot of work
Oh, I just remembered when my friend SMK was trying to set up a New Year’s Dinner party, and fewer people showed up than he’d hoped. He declared, while trying to reach potential attendees on his cell phone from inside the restaurant lobby:
“I can’t get the gay men in this town to commit to dinner, much less a relationship!”
Re: a lot of work
Most of my invitees are straight geeks. A few gay men, one butch bi chick w/boyfriend, blah, blah, blah.
Re: a lot of work
I only invite gay fellas and their boyfriends to my birthday parties … I’m a Ghetto Queer!
Re: a lot of work
I was in chicago. Now I have a more diverse body of friends. It has bonuses =)
Re: a lot of work
Hmmm … what kinds of bonuses?
diversity bonuses
Cute little babies to gurgle at (without having to change their diapers). Novel perspectives, complete with different ideas about how things are or ought to be. Enriches one’s conceptual framework for handling reality.
Re: a lot of work
Ditto to being a Ghetto queer.
only, you forgot to send me an invitation.
🙂
If only I’d had your email address at the time I was composing the list =) I do have a friend who’ll be there from San Francisco (he’s actually coming in to town primarily for the school’s spring carnival, but details, details =)
