silly websites

So, there’s this website which allows you to administer a toy nation. It gives you issues periodically which you address my multiple choice legislation, and the character of your nation thus emerges. I’m rather amused with the way mine is turning out thus far. If this kind of wacky silliness amuses, I encourage you to sign up. www.nationstates.net

      1. I ran a bunch of them with different political philosophies just for amusement.

I tried real hard to get it to classify one of my states as communist, but I just got an economically imploded “psychotic dictatorship” Perhaps the author of the game is trying to make a statement by refusing to auto-label soviet-style communism as such.

Oddly the state where my primary goal was just to be evil, with no particularl political philosophy, had an economy that went through the roof. Where “through the roof” means it went up through “Very Strong”, past “Powerhouse” and got classified as “All Consuming” for a few days.

Then I simultaneously stepped down as dictator, cut back defense spending, instituted social wellfare, stopped giving handouts to my auto industry, and removed tarrifs. Bad moves, every one.

I’ve since put the tarrifs back in place, gave the pork back to the auto industry, kept the social welfare, and increased funding in education. I’m back to “Powerhouse” but my average income tax level looks unmaintanably high.

Oh yeah, another piece of evil advice: Barcoding your citizens boosts your “Information Technology” industry. I suspect that increasing defense also helps automotive, but I’m not sure on that one. Increasing defense spending in a poorer nation can easily send its economy further down the tubes (i tried this one too).

I think I finally tricked nationstates though. I managed to get it to give me a “Capitalizt”[sic] state in which private enterprise is illegal. I’m not sure how this works, but I seem to have gotten a booming economy out of it.
