Morning was slow. Abyssmally slow. And uneventful. Very sad. Very boring.
Eventually managed to drag my ass out of bed, and things perked up a little. Talked to Ro on the phone. Got a call from , who was in town for part of his grad school field trip thing. Yay. =) Made plans for dinner with him. Biked over to simon’s go thing, to keep him abreast of the details. Then to the Y for lifty/lifty, burny/burny. Listening to Ro’s message on my cellphone, when who should appear but Ro. =) Chat for a bit, shower off, bike down to Ashby station to meet Ken and Simon. We head off to sushi dinner (first I’ve had in months, I think). Fun ensues. Ken not up for gaming in Alameda. Simon wants to hang with Ken. I’m tempted to join them, but instead opt for gaming w/Ro, and and others.
Following mapquest, uneventful trip to party. Many games are played. First one was BANG! I was the sherriff, and I shot my deputy (Ro). In the end, the renegade ( won.), but it was a fun and long game (long for the sort of game it was). I think I might have failed to collect everyone’s dying hand, but no biggie.
In the meantime, the spare arcade style gamebox they have there (of the SNK, page through multiple games variety. Can’t remember what that’s called, last blade 2 or something like that. ) It has an interesting 2d dueling game (ala street fighter 2), and that game had this amusing character. A little old white bearded guy, with a basket about as big as he was, from which he shot killer attack turtles (larger than the basket) at his opponents. It was fun.
Next came scrabble. I started off with a bingo, which was pretty cool. All hail the blank tile. Thanks to the bingo, I won. Next came this rabbit racing game. It looks, as , I think, put it, “one of those games you play when you’re 6”. But it was more complicated than those games. This game involved lots of choice and significant strategy. It also had the feature of helping the underdogs far more than the leads. I bet on randomness, and randomness liked me. Randomness was less kind to Ro. Then we played this interesting point scoring card game. I liked. I lost three consecutive times to Ro, and wanted to do a fourth (the third was the ‘last game’). Then Jesse stepped in. I somehow won, then Jesse wanted to play again. So we did. I miraculously won again. It was fun. I went home. Interestingly one of the people in the room (keep in mind, like 10 people at most) was a cmu graduate, circa may, in set design or some such.
Ride back home. Discuss my authorial ambitions with Ro, and hear much about the closing of doors and burning of bridges in technical fields.
Nat had joined Ken and Simon, and they were playing scrabble in my living room. Rejoicing was great. Fun was had, bed was sought. Weee.
