Geekboy strikes again

There is a giant gaping hole in my life, that can be filled only by HOT TABLETOP RPG ACTION. Ro and Simon have expressed interest, and I am vaguely willing to DM. Now I need to find a few more players and decide, pre-existing universe or EarthDawn. Hmmmm.

Or, better yet, find another to drink of this cup, and be a player myself. =)

  1. was it you …

that was telling me that earthdawn had been revised so that it wasn’t so awful?

    neato world, poo poo system.

you know that i’m a 3rd edition d&d ho, but i’m too far away to play anyhow. i’d run the game if i had players .. but alas.

Probably not me. I’ve always liked the EarthDawn system. It does have the eye-rolling class system going on, but beyond that I think it does pretty well.

D&D is like microsoft, imho. It’s only running the show because of marketing, not because of system superiority (though I will grant that third ed made it much, much happier).

right .. and i enjoy using my common base ms software because it works and gets the job done, and i can even do things that i enjoy on my computer. much like 3rd edition – the latest rev of ms shit isn’t so bad either.

i wouldn’t play 2nd edition to spare my soul eternal torment. 3rd is a sound system with little effort to understand. having to refer to the book for 1/4 of a game session (“oh, i don’t know if class-x can do this .. let’s check!”) bugs the snot outta me.

i can’t commute down there to play anyhow, so it’s moot.

if someone would commute up here to play tho, i would gladly run. 😉 we covered this ages ago, tho. ah well.

  2. *looks for dice*

i was a huge tabletop rpg geek from 6th to 10th grade.. i had the rule books, the dice, the character sheets.. (D&D and Paranoia mostly, never got into AD&D).

ya know what? I never played one real game in that time. Not one. It was just me and my *two* friends, and that eventually became one friend (yay for nerd outcasts!)

so.. hrm. definetly curious to see what that would be like

      1. Heavens.. you really are just stalking me now, arent you? When was this even posted??

Sadly no, I lost all of those books during a very ugly seperation process involving my mother and her husband, during my senior year of high school.

  3. Wuss

As an “always the DM, never the player” I have the following advice:

Run the game yourself, you pansy!

As an Earthdawn owner who never played it, I encourage you to run Earthdawn so that I can read about it on LJ. On the other hand, you may want to run something people are actually likely to own and want to play.

  4. hack’n’slash

While having no interest in the supposed joy of low-quality adlib acting err… I mean role-playing, I certainly did enjoy the semi-mindless hack’n’slash of teen-aged D&D with interesting mysteries and puzzles tossed in for spice. I’d like to try playing some Warhammer Quest, Talisman, Hero’s Quest, or When Darkness Comes myself.

RPG-lite, often no DM, a miniature feel, and you’re definitely done with the adventure in 3 hours at most. Anyone intersted? This stuff is mostly OutOfPrint so I’d have to do some digging.
