Had to happen sooner or later

Well,

I have a belly.

Not a big belly, but still.

My 32w pants are tight, and leave me with a small but undeniable overhang. (keep in mind that my bones probably haven’t grown much from the time my 30w pants were a little loose).

I don’t doubt I can avoid going up pants sizes while retaining waistline comfort, but it will require sacrificing certain extra-curriculars. Or at least cutting back a bit.

I’d have to do more cardio. The past few months, I’ve been erratically lifting, and barely aerobicizing outside my 10 minute warm ups before the lifting. and have talked about the chicago Marathon in October. I have no doubt I could train up to it.

I’d have to watch what I eat. Going back to veganism (most of the time) wouldn’t be a bad plan. Most cheese is fat with a little protein. It is tasty. (I do like me some brie and crackers). I need to curtail my portion size. Eating until stuffed is a dumb thing I do all the time. (restaurants around here make that very easy.) Eating healthy outside my kitchen is also muy tricky.

In practical terms, I’d have to cook for myself so much more. Which means cooking lunch a night or two ahead of time for work days or slapping together a sandwich each morning.

In truth, I could stand to cut back quite a bit from my WoW time. I’d be happier and healthier if I spent more time at the gym. And my cooking skills aren’t bad, but I could stand to expand my repertoire quite a bit.

  1. Happens to the best of us.

So after Laura tells me she’s leaving, I stop really eating for two weeks, spend all my time intensely pacing outside, and come back to the office after a month.

Everyone then tells me “Mike, you look much healthier now, this divorce must’ve done you good”

  2. I saw an ad and I couldn’t agree more with it.

The ad said “Diets are mean”

I think you should eat what you want, when you want it. The trick is making the time or finding the energy to burn it off.

At work, I skip eating lunch with the office, instead, I go to the gym for my lunch hour and have a protien bar or a cliff bar for lunch.

Not sure if that’s realistic for you, but denying yourself foods you enjoy just seems like a bad idea.
