lead myself not into temptation

1) okay, so Seattle is awesome. Smaller than chicago, less scary for a cyclist, plenty of vegetarian friendliness, easy access to forests and mountains and places that humans have yet to build over, and an acceptable gay scene … at least from what I can determine on day 2. But, I’m pleased with the social life I’m developing in chicago, and do not want to make the jump just yet.

2) I almost bought ffxi again. On dvd so it would install quickly, donchya know. It’d only be 15 bucks a month, right? And so different from WoW… but nobody to play it with, so pass.

3) Wrath on DHL and (to a lesser extent) Frys. Frys says if you get an order in before midnight it will ship that day. I ordered my laptop wednesday morning for next day delivery to seattle. Frys got the laptop to DHL about 15 hours later. Just past midnight. DHL has since moved it to the wrong facility then to the airfield 5 miles away, where it sat for another 6 hours before it “departed facility” that was 21 hours ago. No status updates since. This was the same company that [had an employee who] stole my apple laptop on its return trip from the repair shop 2 years ago. Hate!

  1. Yeah. Seattle is great.
Not to mention, the gay men in that city are ridiculously attractive. Whenever I take a trip up from Portland, I always end up shaking my head. “Why don’t I live here?”
Not that Portland isn’t awesome too. It’s even bike friendlier than Seattle and has access to much of the same wilderness areas. But I’ve never much cared for Portland’s gay scene and I think I’ve grown to love a more urban atmosphere like that of Seattle.

  2. You should *really* test out FFXI before buying. WoW/CoH have a finer level of control; FFXI is more like DAoC, where you tell the character to attack and then wait awhile. Also, from level 6 on, you either party up of give up. I love Final Fantasy; I was very disappointed with FFXI.

    1. I did make it up to 53 or 54 with a mithra thief and a wide assortment of other jobs in the 30’s or below. Only missing summoner of the pre-aht-urgan jobs, and I had started the quest chain =)

      1. You’re thinkin’ old school! The current content has a lot of 3-6 man instances (after Monday update there will be 50 mercenary commissions) but I reckon I can’t force you.

        1. Are those instances open to multiple levels up the ladder or just high levels?

Do you get experience for the instances?

Are there other limitations to the instances such as cool downs or beastman seals

Is Patrick at PAX? (I think he may be sitting next to me)

          1. Monster levels are set relative to the highest member, and you can impose a cap of 50 or 60 for your party if you desire.

Yes, you get exp for killing things. There are also good old ENM battles and plenty of weekly exp scroll quests if you want 2-3k exp without a standard party.

Mercenary missions require an ID tag which refreshes at the commissions counter once per 24 hours, up to a maximum of 3 stocked at a time.

Not to my knowledge. O_o; Poke him anyway.

    1. Word, you don’t know the meaning of the word “grind” until you find out you’ve been playing for 30 hours and have yet to hit Level 10.

    2. Probably won’t hop. If you need a couch (or air mattress) to crouch on, I’d be happy to provide. If you seek a group geek housing arrangement, I’d be happy to help organize one, with sufficient notice.
