For my blogging and news purposes, I’m planning on getting an RSS aggregator. I want one that actually aggregates, runs on Mac OS 10.3, doesn’t suck, is free, and supports authentication. Any suggestions?
Getting a word in edgewise

I haven’t looked at this in eons. Are there solutions that would let me read lj protected stuff from an RSS aggregator? I assume that’s what you mean by authentication.
Personally, I do it the other way around and use lj as my RSS aggregator. But the view kinda sucks. If I could aggregate lj into something else I might consider it.
It can be done. If you look under the help link, go to the faq section, search for rss, and click on the relevant link, it’ll show you the appropriate aggregator url to use to invoke authentication.
Yeah, I just followed that path, too. Interesting. The 25 post limitation could be irritating after a vacation, as could adding individual friends rss feeds one by one (tohugh that’s a one-off cost), but it’s still worth looking into.
blogdigger.com?

I can’t seem to get it to read lj with authentication. Any suggestions?
It works for me with this URL format:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/$USERNAME/data/rss?auth=digest
I was using an outdated version. Thanks, though. =)
Bloglines all the way.
I cannot say enough good things about it.
It’s platform-independent, free, technically sophisticated,
and ACTUALLY AGREGATES (gasp) rather than display the last 10 or whatever.
And keeps track of what you’ve read and what haven’t.
And also has related functionality, such as disposable email addresses, that you can create and give out, and emails to which show up as RSS feeds in your inbox.
It is amazing.
Authentication, however, I do not know about.
It might not have it.
