Memorial Service
Today was the memorial service for my little sister’s stillborn daughter, Penelope.
That’s the first time I’ve cried in public in many years. The last time that comes to mind was during undergrad. And that was far less public.
more exercise
40 minutes slow running today, with hills, mud, rain, and hail (precipitation started on the way back from the run).
36 minutes, 4.05 miles, variable speed thursday evening. I got at fast as 7.5 mph for about 15 minutes of it. If I were ambitious, I might go for an 8 minute mile on the 10 miler.
workout log
Sat 2/23: 5+ mile outdoor run (gay!)
<guess>
Sun 2/24: 20min stationary bike + push workout
Tue 2/26: 3 mile track run
Thu 2/28: 3 mile treadmill run 9 min pace +pull workout
</guess>
Sat 3/1: 5+ mile outdoor run (gay!)
Mon 3/3: 3.5 mile indoor track 30min
Conclusions:
cardio activity is definitely up, but I’m not really following a training program.
I need to register for the three races I want in on. (2x 10 milers + 1 olympic length triathlon)
I’m not lifting enough to justify the split workout, I should reunify.
much march travel (pittsburgh, dc, nyc)
It seems that I will be in pittsburgh for the memorial service for Penelope, Jane’s miscarried daughter. I’ll be in town 3/7 -3/9 (service on 3/8).
I’ll also be in washington DC 3/19-3/23 for union stuff, work, and to see the peoples over the weekend.
There is also a vague plan for an nyc trip 3/28-3/30.
Staying with friends is great, and I’d love to see folks if you’re available.
Upcoming travel plans
- Early in March, Vancouver, e-saver dependent, stay at a cheap gay friendly B&B, I’d love to not do this alone, but will probably do it alone. May check out Environmental Science program at UBC.
- Mid-March, potentially Washington, DC for union business.
- Late in March, NYC, see friends.
- Mid-April (right after birthday), Pittsburgh, Carnival and meet my new niece.
- May, Bay Area, maybe a full week, finally see Insignificant Others
- July, Columbus, attend Origins.
If I feel the need for more travel on top of that, I may check out Portland, I hear it’s a neat town.
Oh yeah, I also need to find and move into a new apartment before the end of march. No problem, right?

Lifting and Endurance training
If I am training for a long distance run and/or a triathlon, is lifting 3 times per week too much? (as if I’m lifting 3 times per week now anyway)
