Standard housing blurb
We have a place in north berkeley for summer sublet for $500/month with hard wood floors a yard, a view, a small deck, large living room, decent kitchen, lots of storage space, washer & dryer as well as dishwasher. For the fall, we would be looking for like $660 (sublet is subsidized by a fall resident, exact price dependent on room size) We have no children, pets or smoking. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk to the downtown berkeley bart station (a little more coming back, as it is uphill) There is also generally onstreet parking available with permit, if that’s relevant.
No utilities are included, so those are split among the tenants. We have a cable net connection and internal house network along with some cable tv. We all have cell phones, so we didn’t get a land line, but have no problem splitting it if somone needs it.
We are three males, two of us in our mid 20’s and the other in his mid 30’s. We all technical professionals, calm and quiet, different types of vegetarian, gay (and all just friends), and relaxed about tidiness levels.
Our place is available to move in now, and we have two spots available. In the fall we will likely have only one spot available. We want to make sure that the personalities we assemble get along very well for longer term residency.
If you’re interested we can arrange for you to take a look at the place later this week.
Screw you too, uhaul
Penske: Local moves must start mon-thu
Ryder: Nearest location in SF, won’t give price quote
Uhaul: Only reasonable option
Where by “reasonable” I mean “only allows 6 hour reservations for in town moves”. So, I expect there will be a certain amount of stuff moved in other vehicles, at other times. Still deeply irksome.
Do have some help, including Daniel (great guy, medic, with a pickup truck), and Ro. But we could certainly use more, and if any of you could come over and help out with this process either late in the morning or early in the afternoon on saturday, it would be much appreciated, especially given the limited uhaul window. We will provide some material demonstration of our gratitude, dinner on us at an agreeable restaurant, most likely. Plus you get to see the new place, and go ‘ooo’ and ‘aaah’ (it is really cool). And it will probably be a small convocation of gay men who help their friends out in a pinch, so, hey, great social opportunities 😉
If you wanna help, email me. =) Also if you can help at other times this week, that would probably also be helpful. Whee.

roommate hunt
So, we (Tom, Ro, and I) will be moving in to the new place in a couple of weeks. Simon has grudgingly agreed to pay for the fourth slot for the summer if we can’t find anyone else. We would like to find someone else, though. Preferably 2 someone elses (though it will result in some slightly odd sleeping arrangements and/or traffic flow patterns, the house should still be a great place to live. It’s roomie.
So if any of you are looking for a place to stay for the summer, or have a friend who is, or someone who wants to move in, for that matter, drop me a line, post a comment, or whatever. craigslist ad included below.
Interesting little dream & other things
In this dream I was dreaming of a new place. It was, in dream land, the place we were moving to, but in reality is nothing like it. In this dream, it was in a large park-like place, with winding roads, massive empty space between buildings, and huge buildings. (Nothing like the bunch of modest to medium sized houses crammed right next to one another on a rectilinear hill). Just down the street from an outdoor pool. I was walking through the area.
Somehow this turned to me sitting at a picnic table chatting with someone. Then this twinky guy (not my typical first choice, but not bad), friend of a friend came to sit with us and talk. I saw something odd about him right off, his eyes were disfocused and not directed where he was going, plus something about his motions was off. I got the impression he was blind. Then he started greeting my companion with the gentle, fingertip feely touch to ‘see’ him, and chatting a friendly flirtation. I think he was associated with the clinic, or some other mutual membership-oriented gay thing.
I touched his forearm before he touched me in greeting. He was friendly about that too, though not flirtatious. I can’t remember much past that point in the dream, which is a shame, because it was an interesting dream.
Last night I was feeling restless (I haven’t been working out like I want to lately), at like 11:45 (my gym is 30 min walk away anyway and closes at 10). So I went for a run and ended up in north berkeley. Farther north than I generally go on foot. By the time I got there, my knee was having no more of this running on pavement nonsense. So I walked back. My knee is still not happy, but I feel much calmer. Repeated chatting on gay.com both before and after, in which people who had seen me in person kept saying my pics didn’t do me justice.
And lots of housing related stress. I’m starting to worry, I know the land lady is in England, and has been for awhile, but for heaven’s sake, you’d think for a lease she’d find someway to handle the mail, and get it back to us, oh, within 2 weeks of us signing it. I am almost willing to swear to never ever sign a lease again unless I’m walking away with a copy containing the owner’s signature. Ro was supposed to move in on the 1st, but it turns out that the refinishing of the floors is going to keep him out for a few more days. We don’t have keys yet. Ro is moving to the den of his current place on the sly from the landlord, but with the consent of his roomies, for a few extra days.
Talked with Ro yesterday about my summer, not-necessarily-paid internship idea with a city planning department somewhere around here, and he was supportive. Also brought it up while chatting with
Plus Simon gone byebye for the summer.
Oh, and a hella long, but still incomplete post about commitments I’ll be taking on. Also, talking with Ro the other day got me thinking about free will v determinism/self-determinism v choices made by the surrounding universe, as it relates to the outsider. Also, thoughts on outsider-ness causing intellectual-ness rather than the other way around.
Those are my thoughts. I now go to work. Hopefully I will lift this evening before (finally) making it to one of

Tom things he did well on his Google interview (Yay!) so the bastard is probably moving to the peninsula (boo!)
GayDay at Great America
I haven’t been on a rollercoaster in years, and had fun that way. It was a go-out-and-have-fun-with-friends event. And I ran into a number of other people I knew. I enjoyed it (worth the $50 I paid? Well….). Not a place to meet new people. Though it was a low hygiene day for me (not having shaved in half a weekand I noticed two zit-like ingrown hairs when I got home) and I was generally kinda sleep depped/preoccupied, so maybe the lack of meeting people was more about me. Oh well.

The Matrix Reloaded
Nonspoiler summary: Lots of good eyecandy (careful kids, you’ll rot your corneas), philosophical wallpaper (covering everything you see, and about as deep as the shallow end of a kiddie pool), in a neat universe with not terribly developed characters. It was good and bad, with more of the former than the latter, though not by much. I preferred X2.
