I hate rental van companies

Uhaul has agreed to maybe give me something on the 31st, if they can. I would love, love, love to have some sort of alternative, but my lease is up on the 31st, and we have no guarantee of having access to the place before the 31st. And, of course, no car.

This means, of course, that I’ll have to get up at 6am on the 31st, to bus out somewhere on the suburban fringe to get a rental truck larger than I’m comfortable maneuvering (despite having asked for a van), so that we can hastily cram all my remaining earthly possessions into the van, then cram all of brian’s worldy possessions, then uncram them into an apartment that may well not yet be truly ready for our arrival.

I do not want to play a second round of this moving game while in minneapolis. Given that we have such a sweet deal, I have every intention of keeping this place for both years. Let’s see if it actually happens.

PS, if any of you all are willing and able to loan your labor or your high capacity vehicle to the effort, it would be much appreciated, and rewarded at minimum with a tasty dinner at a restaurant of your selection on me.

      1. well… tell me if you do need it, it has a pretty big trunk (i drove most of my kitchen cabinets home from chicago in it, flattened of course)

        1. No matter what, it would be tremendously useful to have car support. I don’t want to inconvenience you, but if you’re willing, I’d be terribly grateful.

If uhaul pulls through for us, it’d be great not to have to bus to the pickup site. Especially if the pickup is in outer mongolia. And if they don’t, a car would make the difference between incredible sadness and serious inconvenience.

  1. Your move

I would have come out to help with a truck if I had know a little sooner when you were moving. Unfortunately, I get back from vacation that morning and don’t think I could make the drive in time to help….but wish I could. Good luck with the move though. By the way, did you see about staying in your old place for a day extra or two if needed?

  2. I’m willing to come over and help carry stuff. I don’t have a car though. 🙁 I was lucky to have a few weeks to be able to move everything. Let me know if you need help moving stuff.
