It’s basically an inventory tracking thing. Supply chain logistics and what not. They want C++/database experience. Distributed systems, asynchronous messaging. Simulation and mathematical modeling are other biggies. In short, a good fit for my skill set.

Accurate monitoring and estimation of inventory levels is critical to running an efficient supply chain network. The Inventory Tracking and Simulation team is responsible for developing and maintaining the core software that models Amazon.com’s supply chain to monitor existing inventory levels in real time, and to robustly forecast future inventory levels based on process and policy decisions. This is a brand new team within Amazon.com, and is in the formative stages of designing and building a simulation platform that integrates the production systems for buying and customer fulfillment in supply chain. We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic engineer to help build out the team. Expertise with high-end transaction systems and relational databases in a Unix/C++ environment is required. Familiarity with distributed systems and asynchronous messaging is highly recommended. Experience in building simulation systems, aptitude for mathematical modeling is
a definite plus. The ideal candidates will have five or more years of development experience with a proven record of completion of at least one full project life cycle. Excellent debugging skills and an attitude of enthusiastically supporting the customers who will be using the software to base business decisions are required. Candidates must have a strong Computer Science, Information Technology or Mathematics background. A bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science or Information Technology is required.
