You called him a “kid” — I think younger ones are somewhat more likely to be fickle and stand-uppish. Maybe it didn’t happen in Chicago, but it would happen in DC, I’ve been stood up here. Plus you’ll often get your standard, “Sure, I’d like to see you again — never calls back” routine 😐
