  1. Are they real marshmellows? (Made with marshmallow root, that is.)

Real marshmellows *are* vegan, see. Only they’re god. damned. im-fuckin-possible to find. What are the ingredients on those?

  2. also, fyi: i don’t object to boca burgers, though I prefer morningstar.

It’s some of the other meat substitutes – including, yes, tofurkey – that I find either pointless or foul.

I really don’t understand why anyone would eat most meat substitutes. They don’t have the texture of meat, they taste outright bad, and they cost more than just working with fresh things. Ick.

    1. I’m fine with meat substitutes that don’t have the texture of meat, but if they do have it, then they’re just about as bad as meat in my book. Of course, tasting good is important as well.

Most vegetarians don’t actually like meat at all (whether because they disliked it before, or have come to dislike it from being vegetarian), so there’s no need to make vegetarian dishes taste like meat ones.

Vegan things however are often an exception. I have no issues with gelatin (even ethically, because so many cattle are slaughtered for other things already, that the bones or whatever might as well be used for something), and if you replace eggs and butter with soy lecithin and margarine in cookies, you often really can’t tell the difference. Of course, I still prefer drinking soy milk to cow milk, because of the differences in how it acts on your throat.

      MorningStar’s Chik Patties are god!
