Debates over presidential debates

We should have people come over, watch the presidential debates, and start arguing^Wdiscussing. When I say “people”, I specifically have in mind , , Ro, Tom, me, of course, and anyone else to whom this sounds like fun. =) Though the density of dean supporters might make it a bit too much of a self-congratulary circle jerk. Who knows? =)

  1. I didn’t get to see it. So, how do you think they did? Granted, you have your favorite. So, it’s a bit hard to not look upon him favorably and others unfavorably. But, can you try and put that aside and tell me your opinion of it?

    1. Kucinich actually made a favorable impression on me, for the most part, that was the biggest surprise.

      Then came the near total indistinguishability of the candidates. I started making dinner half way through it, with periodic returns to watch.

      They all sound virtually the same. Dean had some cool ideas (only one to mention how good it would be to get arabic speaking, muslim troops from ally nations into Iraq, for instance).

      Kucinich was pretty radical, and I wish he had more support, but I’m grateful that there’s someone left of dean that the media can make out as a nutcase.

      Carol Mosley-Braun made a very ‘trying to be downhome, yet politically saavy’ impression, and pulled it off fairly well.

      Sharpton couldn’t make it.

      Lieberman made me want to stab him repeatedly.

      Kerry, Gebhart, Graham, and Edwards all seemed pretty indistinguishable to me.

      All in all, examining their records is a much better way to get their number than listening to them debate.

      1. I generally avoid debates with this many participants. It’s really hard to get much of anything out of them because they have vitually no time to talk. Plus, they should rename these because they aren’t really debates. They are just question and answer sessions. I don’t think this resembles anything near the Lincoln-Douglas debates. Still, they are interesting to watch.

        Thanks for taking the time to give me your thoughts. I should try tuning in the next time they have one of these things.
