weird.
everyone i know seems to be seeing these emails, and i’ve yet to. i’m sure i’m cursed by saying this, but not even one has hit my inbox. probably just a matter of time.
i suppose it’s strong server-side filtering at my isp and my webmail provider (yahoo).
Re: weird.
Yeah, well, at least I’m using pine. 😉 And fortunately, there is enough server side filtering to remove the nasty, nasty bits from the email before dropping it in my box, for what that’s worth.
On a wholly unrelated note, have you gotten D&D v3.5 yet? If yes, is it really worth it?
Re: weird.
heh you know, it’s almost tempting to put my code fu ring on and polish it up enough to make a “pine moth” worm or something. i’m sure that’d really read well on /.
yeah, i have 3.5 .. it’s worth it for me cuz i run the game and stuff, but i haven’t asked my players to upgrade unless the want to, then i’m letting them retcon their characters if it’s advantageous. i’d already made a couple of the changes, or something similar, as house rules.
the core classes remain the same, the others get some advantages they didn’t have before, and the ranger is more than just some drizzt do’urden clone. there are oodles more basic spells, that sort of thing. the biggest improvements are in the language of the rules, how they read and are explained. at $30 a pop, it’s a bit much but i just slapped down for all three and got a 30% discount at B&N.
Re: weird.
which reminds me .. (your d&d question) .. you should come up sometime and guest star. 🙂 the sunday afternoon train schedule might be a problem, but you’re welcome to crash if you have monday mornings available to travel back down to the bay area.
Re: weird.
Well, I’d need to familiarize myself with the setting, negotiate a character, and fit it into the story. Plus, (if it’s sunday), I’d have to skip the clinic.
…
How’s this weekend? =)
Re: weird.
heh .. funny, i was just talking about how we couldn’t have the game this weekend. dual army weekends and all that. i *may* pull something last minute together, but by no means is it certain enough for you to change work plans .. or volunteer plans, or whatever the clinic classifies as.
currently the band of mostly-neutral heroes is dungeon crawling. i haven’t run a dungeon crawl in at least six or seven years. it’s proven .. fun.
the party is:
8th lvl gnome rogue with a very magical dagger
1st/6th lvl human female ranger/bard with a slight weight problem
7th lvl blue (goblin) psion (nomad) (my GM NPC) named “runt” that can walk up walls and on ceilings at will
7th lvl 1/2 elf sorcerer that really likes lightning
7th lvl human fighter with a burning sword
1st/6th lvl human wizard/cleric who is rather asocial for a cleric but does the trick nonetheless
supporting characters:
7th level elf ranger (currently waiting back in town; the player is out of state)
they’ve just figured out that the “orc horde” rumors they were following were planted there by a group of unsavory mercenary elves that were seeking an artifact of questionable power that had been last seen in the incomplete dwarven mines two tribes of orcs had taken some 40 years earlier. rumors, as rumors do, say that this artifact brought ruin on the dwarves that were attempting (and would have succeeded) at building a new holding.
the elves (who are quite evil) showed up and by using magic and disguise, convinced the orcs (who were really rather content in their caves worshipping their god of decay) to sally forth and attack the human towns to the north and south. thus emptied of most warriors, the elves killed them all, animated them, and searched until they found said questionable artifact.
this is the point at which our heroes stumbled in, naturally.
there was a fight .. the elves .. lost rather badly although it was a close fight. of the four bad elves, three died quite permanently but we captured the cleric with a special penchant for raising/controlling the dead (the complex was fairly littered with ghouls/ghasts)
some of the party used the artifact. others did not. the effects were bad and good, some lingering, others instantaneous.
the complex is now mostly empty, save the animated former leader of the orcs (a rather uppity ghast with strong opinions about everything) .. a rather misused cleric (of a goddess one wouldn’t suspect an elf to worship) that has agreed to throw in with the party to save his life. they .. don’t think he’s evil, but they didn’t take his rings off or check him for magic before attempting to ascertain his nature.
as we closed, the bad elf cleric was going to use his speak with dead stuff so that the party could get more information.
some 200+ orcs will be returning home eventually to find their females and leaders all quite dead, but no one’s really sure if they’ll come back at all after attempting to raid the town to the north.
the orc children are all .. somewhere most inappropriate for children to be, even orc children.
it could go many ways from here. it’ll depend. 🙂
Re: weird.
Not this weekend is fine too, just lemme know when. =)
I could see myself playing an ascerbic female human (haven’t played that in awhile) monk, wizard (of the toy-making/macguyver variety), or monk/wizard, with a hobby of history anthropology, there to investigate the reason for the sudden change in behavior of the orcs, sent/volunteered from the monastery/tower/whatever.
that seems to be going around for a lot of people lately…
