Yes, I’m a drooling fanboy, get over it. No I don’t know why. I really liked the movie, and it definitely gave me the warm fuzzies. Something about a diverse group of outsiders working together.
I think the character I like the most out of all of them is Kurt Wagner (nightcrawler). The strange thing is that I first encountered the character in a run-around-killing-people arcade game, and I really liked him then. But as I got to the know the character, it just kept on growing. It’s his faith, his emotionality and spirituality that really do it for me. But on top of that, partially by virtue of his mutation, and partially just by character, he’s giving, playful, a clown, he has class, he’s a climber and kinetic, and generally neat. I really don’t find his faith creepy. It’s natural on him, and it makes total sense for someone who feels oneself a total outsider to turn to religion. Particularly a religion preaching tolerance, acceptance, and love for all. Which seems to be his take on it.
I liked the movie. The special effects were spectacular (though oddly, they didn’t do all that much for me). The plot was invoved, well orchestrated and internally consistent. They forecast things nicely (especially for those who’ve read the comic books). I am sad that they didn’t have/make more time for character development. I liked the snippet of conversation between mystique and nightcrawler. I wanted more of that, and less of the mystique attempting to seduce Wolverine. I wasn’t sad about anything that they put in, really, except possibly the mystique on wolverine routine. It seemed a little too ‘hey this movie needs more sex, and whoa, mystique makes good fantasy material, plus, hey, logan, male main character, perfect’ (no metachlorians, no ‘what happens to a toad’s, none of that). I just wish they’d put in more time on character development. Building relationships between the characters and showing us their personalities.
More with the Rogue longing for touch that she can’t have without hurting someone. More of the hurt that Kurt experienced due to the rejection by nonmutants. More emotional depth generally, not just around romantic attachments.
Also, hello, Storm was worshipped as a goddess. She actively participated in this scheme. She is tough, she is bold, she is strong, she is used to being a leader, and a center of attention. Bleh on this quiet character (though good interaction with nightcrawler, re: faith).
Excellent foreshadowing with the final shot, all you comic book fans know whereof I speak.
Ye comic experts: Is mystique Kurt’s mom? Were yuriko and logan involved in the forgotten past? Was Erik leaving Charles behind to die also taken from the comic (they seemed to be more loyal opposition than deadly enemies, but what do I know?)
Yes, she is his mom.
Deathstrikes character is almost nothing like the one in the comic books.
Dunno about the last.
Once again, Magneto is the coolest. Especially with Pyro. MMmmmm.
That’s quite a talent you’ve got there.
😉
That was a cool dynamic.
I like how magneto’s side is totally sympathizable in this one.
I am not a comic expert.
There should have been more sexual tension between chair boy and helmet man. It’s obvious they have unresolved issues. Now all we need is Picard/Gandalf slash
Final Shot

Thanks, I almost wondered if I imagined it. There was some other lead up earlier that backed it up.
Re: Final Shot
Part of why it was so great. It was there, yet ambiguous enough to be deniable.
Re: Final Shot
That shot was fucking awesome. And so much better than if it had actually shot up out of the water…
“and less of the mystique attempting to seduce Wolverine. I wasn’t sad about anything that they put in, really, except possibly the mystique on wolverine routine.”
Hey, I liked that part!
I was all like “Dude, Mystique is totally hotter then Jean, but he’s not going for her! I’m confused and intriqued!”
Of course, perhaps its my opinion that blue is an attractive skin color that biases me. Also people with CG special effects are sexy.
Mmm. Prehensile tail.
Nightcrawler is indeed yummy, but I was kinda disappointed in that he wasn’t nearly as wacky and witty as he is in the comic. He’s a smartass yet romantic – a carny at heart, but none of that came through in the movie. Ah well, maybe next time.
