parties galore

Last week, no parties. Week before that, no parties.

Saturday. 4 parties (excluding one I just said ‘no, sorry, already overcommited’ to). Spacing & timing, people, c’mon.

Anyway, here they are.

Touchy/feely gay community group potluck 3-7ish

  • pros: new gay guys, time convenient, right next door, possible useful contacts.
  • cons: probably an older crowd, complete unknowns, high potential for irritatingly irrational flakes.
  • frequency: apparently rare (avg 1 event/month with this group, and not all events are nearly accessible)

Strategy gaming party, 3-whenever

  • pros: fun, known likeable peoples, novel games, free range geekness, flexible timing, whee.
  • cons: In alameda, conflicts with all other parties, does not offer dating pool expansion possibilities.
  • frequency: happens about monthlyish.

Cal gay grads event, 8 – late

  • pros: new gay guys (grad students even!). easily bartable. I get to pick up my dishes. know two specific good guys there. sushi!
    • cons: out-of-place-ness (not a grad student). ‘sharp dress encouraged’.
      • frequency: Seems like gay grad social things happen at cal once or twice a semester. I have been to zero.

BFC member’s Mardi Gras party 8 – way too late

      • pros: many gay guys, mixed party, some pre-existing social connection, not too bad to get to. possible flirtations with medic types that I already know and can expect to see on a regular basis.
      • cons: high likelihood of discomfort based on recreational consumption, small out-of-place-ness, ‘masks encouraged’.

definitely going to try to cap the partiness with the potluck and the mardi gras party. Waffling on the other bits.

Also doing bike construction foo, pre potluck.

Oh yeah, possible party here in two weeks (on the 15th). Still examining.

  1. QG actually has a social event about every-other week, if you are more interested in meeting people than going to a party, though I’ve found that the crowd isn’t terribly social. Everyone pretty much seems to talk to their friends.
