Community “Manifesto”

So, I’m planning on setting up another yahoo group (because my last one worked sooo well. I have an idea for it that I need to post sometime today) only this one would be about a group for talking about intentional communities. Then I’d do something dorky like advertise it on craigslist. Hmmmm.

Laying the Foundations of Community

We are exploring intentional communities and would like to meet with other community minded individuals from the oakland/berkeley area to continue the process. We want to find out more about what is currently out there, and thoroughly plan this before we do it, but we take these communities seriously and hope to develop an actual community (or possibly multiple communities) from this group.

We want a community which provides a sense of support and connection to its members while helping all members grow to reach their own potential, a community which consumes less by sharing more, and gives something back to society.

Among our more specific plans, we would like to start a residential community with an educational business, specifically tutoring and home schooling services, a participatory, non-coercive, egalitarian decision making process, partial resource sharing, regular/frequent shared meals and recreation, a commitment to healthy living, and a commitment to assisting in the formation of other communities.

Thoughts?

    1. Probably, but…

Well, I’m pretty sure the answer is yes, but I’m more oriented towards a group that will actually meet in person, periodically. Plus, lj groups are harder to join, in that you have to be on lj to join one.
