Apparently, the cdc website no longer contains information on condoms (I just checked and found this “page”: http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/pubs/facts/condoms.htm) Another individual at the wrap up who works for a research group affiliated with UCSF and partially funded by the cdc, claimed that his group was told it had to put adult content warnings on their entire website, or risk losing funding. And the national std hotline supposed gave him the run-around on any information about condoms, finally requesting that he send any questions in on letterhead. (The conversation as he presented it was essentially him asking if they had had any recent changes in their policy on discussing condom usage, and them responding angrily, defensively, and uninformatively. He was eventually told that the policy hadn’t changed, and he then said in essence “Great, let’s talk about condoms for a second then,” and was told to send his questions to them on letterhead.)
I urge you to call and find out for yourself. I’d really like to hear that this is wrong, or an isolated incident or something. I don’t think it is, but it’d be nice to hear.

They let you on LJ at work? Uh oh…
Ive heard about this… apparently this kinda stuff has been passed down to the CDC from on high. Apparently the administration wants to push an abstinence-only program, and figures that anything promoting actual sex is bad and against policy. That means: no safe-sex education, no programs designed to promote safe sex by making itself interesting (ex: programs like “making safe sex better sex”).
Bleh. Next thing you know theyll overturn roe v. wade AND ban contraceptives at the same time.
Remember, these are the same people who decided to the statues in the capitol building behind heavy curtains because of their partial nudity.
Some condom-related pages remain
Some condom-related pages remain on the CDC site.

Although, I have to say I find the link you provided chilling; I don’t see why CDC would ever reduce availability of information about avoiding disease.
I’d love to corroberate the hotline behavior, but somehow don’t feel like having the chat with them in my surprisingly nosy and disapproving fakejob environment.
I think it says a lot about my confidence in this administration that I believe you by default. 🙁
