unabashedly positive post: okcupid

In the spirit of unreservedly positive posts, I’d like to say okcupid is a wonderful service. It is free, it has amusing multiple choice tests to take, it’s reliable, it has a neat personality compatability prediction system, which seems to have worked well for me, and I’ve met several neat guys through it, including Chip and Pliny.

I recommend it.

  1. You must have some greater skill than I do. I occasionally browse okcupid, but I’ve never seen anyone there that I’ve felt motivated to meet in person and only a few that I’ve even e-mailed.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if your type of guy is more likely to be found at a dating site than my type of person.

  2. It’s how I met my husband, but not before wading through several rounds of crazies, uglies, and just plain borings. This includes the guy who made fun of me on college humor because I was so pathetic as to seek out *friends* online (I’d just moved to New York and knew no one) and the guy whose idea of a pick up line was “Your shoulders are divine.” So, while I’m glad I met my husband, I’d say all dating sites are full of people, and therefore much the same.

  3. Vancouver has a very limited number of OKcupiders. So I keep getting e-mails imploring me to check out the profiles of… the same 3 people as last week 😛

  4. well it did get me to meet you

My luck has been mediocre but I think that has to do with it telling me that all the guys that match are hours and hours away. . . 🙂

but it seems reasonable. and more or less useful. I just need a bigger city.

  5. I met a person last year, and we both came to the conclusion we should be best friends.

After returning to a computer, we discovered that we have a 99% match on OKC.

    It was kind of surreal.
