I don’t know why I thought getting steel cut oats was a good idea. Especially now that I clearly see they take like 3 times as long to cook as regular rolled oats. They’re still just oats. It’s not worth the 10 cents I saved. Learn from my mistake. =)
Steel cut oats
cook great in a crock pot ….you can set it up before bed and wake to have breakfast ready.
But they’re the trendiest oats that have ever been!
The oatmeal lobby does an amazing job of keeping this grain alive.
I had to look up wtf this meant.

OH GOD. I had to stop half way through. “Cooking craggy wheat-sand is my refuge from the modern world”. Okay.
I dunno. I like ’em.

But I also like the regular ones. Have you seen the coffee-pot version of making ’em?

I save ’em for weekends. They’re particularly good with some butter, brown sugar, and vanilla mixed in.
Did you at least get the ones in the nice metal tin? Then you could at least keep that.
Yeah, I was going to get them until I read the directions on the back and couldn’t find the microwave.
I’ve never had them, but I’d like to try them now that I’ve read about them. This crock pot method seems like it might turn out a little better than others: http://annkroeker.wordpress.com/2008/03/25/overnight-crockpot-steel-cut-oatmeal/
I tend to use Good Eats recipe…(sm crockpots work best)

Hmm, that URL doesn’t seem to work.
I like the idea of the “double boiler” method because it seems like you would end up with less crusty oatmeal stuck to the sides, and as a bonus would make for easier cleanup.
I think they’re 7000x times better myself, and I look forward to them every few days.
OMG QUICK OATS ARE SO UNNATURAL STEEL CUT OATS ARE AMAZING OMG.
Yeah, I’m with you.
I love love em, they’re much better for you and have a great texture. Worth the wait!
I love steel cut oats.
Especially with blackstrap molasses in.
…I bet if I fed you that you would make faces like a toddler being forced to eat spinach.
