GRE on Saturday

I’ll be in Champaign for an engineers without borders meeting, so I had to reschedule my GRE. And my choice was this weekend or mid-October. I opted for this weekend. That means I’ll have to do some practice essay writing over the next few days. I also want to have a solid draft of my research objectives by the start of next week to share with the friends who’ve volunteered to help me with my essay. (So I can give it to my recommenders by the end of next week as well).

Grad school ho?

  1. Ugh, don’t tell me you’re taking the GRE again! You’ve only been done with school for a few years! I’ve been using you as an example for what life would be like after grad school!

    ….

Seriously though, good luck! Where do you think you’ll apply?

    1. Haha! Circumventing expectations again!

Um, UC Berkeley is my first choice. University of British Columbia, or possibly CMU as my next choices. If I don’t get in those, chances are slim that I’ll be doing the PhD thing this year.

  2. Good luck! I think the GRE must have changed since I took it since I didn’t have to do any writing… I also think I heard that they took off the logic part? It’s too bad if they did; that was actually fun! What I remember from the vocab part (this was one of the first years they gave it on the computer, and the questions adapted to your level) was the words getting easier and easier… until I was finally sure of what they all meant, but still not sure of what the “best” opposite was 🙂 Somehow, I had a good percentile score on it which defies all sense, since I know a lot of foreigners who take it are good at memorizing the vocab lists.

    1. Yeah, I think I’m going to find the essay a lot less fun than the logic tests, but I was surprised by how much worse I did on that than the other sections (700, 90th percentile, v 800M (98p), 740V (99p)
