3 more apartments today.
1) was in what would have been a perfect location if they weren’t shutting down the paulina station for upgrades for a year (ie, the term of the lease), oops. Across the street from the library, near whole foods and the Y. Not to mention a ton of restaurants.
View Larger Map It was reasonable on the first floor. Free laundry in the basement, shared with the rest of the building, I think. 1 washer, 1 dryer. Basement room was a giant room, which they said “could be used as a bedroom”. But it had no wall + door to separate it from the rest of the basement. That strikes me as some serious false advertising. I thought Chicago had some rules as to what counts as a bedroom. Still, if someone were comfortable sleeping behind a divider, it wouldn’t be so bad. Meh. $1900.
2) was in a pretty good location too. An easy walk to the YMCA and whole foods. Not too bad a trip to the addison station for a commute. And if I stayed also a short walk to the paulina station in the future. Long, but doable walk from the red line.
View Larger Map Buck to wash, buck to dry. Very good public areas. Small, small, small bedrooms. Like I think I could fit my futon in any of them, but I doubt both my futon and desk. Otoh, it has a very nice kitchen, a sunroom in the back, as well as a dining room and living room. $2000
3) Wasn’t in as good a location. Right on addison. But even closer for the commute.
View Larger Map. Third floor, small public spaces, unimpressive kitchen, reasonable sized bedrooms. Have to go outside and down three flights of stairs to reach the laundry. $2 wash, $2 dry. (fuck that). $1795
All have back decks. All have central air and forced air heat.
Checking out another one tomorrow a little more east, but still not too far from #1.
View Larger Map $1600. I’m wondering what’s wrong with it.
None have laundry in unit. Very annoying that. But the neighborhoods are sooo right. Especially that last one.
Are those prices per month?!
I’m suddenly glad to be in Paducah.
Yes, those are monthly prices for 3 bedroom apartments in chicago. That’s on the affordable side for 3 BRs, and chicago’s very affordable for a city of its size.
Wages also tend to be higher here than in Paducah. =)
That is true… Higher wage = Higher cost of living…
Our two bedroom is $355/month and after splitting two ways I pay $177.50 for rent/water/trash, then the roomie pays gas/electric and I pay cable/internet since they typically balance each other out.
I seriously need to move back to the country. 😛
