I went mac, now I’m going back

I bought a new laptop with windows pre-installed. Low end of the new laptop market, slightly less processor power than a macbook, slightly better graphics, $400 cheaper than the cheapest mac laptop. Definitely puts my work computer and my old iBook to shame. Also a 13″ for reduced space consumption. Getting it in time for PAX, whee! =)

Speaking of which, who wants to hang out with me while I’m in Seattle? Let me know and I’ll set aside some time. Ciao!

      1. Are you going to be free Thursday evening? We could at least grab dinner, and I can try to grab some of the other loungerats around here (We can be free at other times, but Thursday is the one day I know you’re not PAXing)

        1. Apparently the alumni email doesn’t work. =) I already have thursday evening dinner plans. I need to plan out my PAX time in more detail to know when I’d be free for dinner or what not, but Sunday after PAX is free (I leave late on Monday)

      1. different than MS… and in some ways worse…

i think that if you were to count the # of ways MS’s products have actually advanced the computing paradigm (via their own ideas or ones they stole) vs the # of ways Apple has done so… it would be interesting…. at least in recent years.

i view Macs as the single-unit-stereo of the computer world…. so would never want one myself, at this point..

but it would be interesting to sit down and figure out how the scales really end up tilting…

      2. If you’ll permit me the vanity of quoting myself (of course you will!)…

As a bit of an aside: Many people bash Microsoft. Yes, they’ve engaged in some bad behavior in the past and were (sort of) punished. But they are diverse and gay-friendly. They don’t destroy the environment or (to my knowledge) keep sweat-shops in business. They provide their employees with a decent living wage and affordable healthcare. Bill Gates gives a lot of money to worthwhile charities (not shitty tax-exempt hate groups like Focus on the Family). I’d rather give my money to MSFT than a lot of other companies, so much of the bashing is–in my opinion–unwarranted.

The context of that was a blog post ranting about Exxon and their multi-bazillion dollar profit last year.
