Listening to the recording of Hardaway’s anti-gay shooting-himself-in-the-foot, I feel sorry for the guy. Maybe beating people up so they lie about their prejudice is a great plan. I mean, it’s worked so well for african-americans, of course we should hop on that bandwagon, now that racism has been totally eliminated.
i don’t feel sorry for him.
Me neither. He got what he deserved.
Well, there’s the argument that a lot of anti-gay people are only anti-gay because it’s the prevailing/acceptable public opinion (in their region or community). If we make it not acceptable, then they’ll be less inclined toward that view perhaps?
I’m not talking about government censorship or anything, just private individuals and organizations choosing to set an example. Tim’s words foster division and tension–if they fly without comment then the team suffers IMO.
I think he got more shit for saying bad things than for feeling bad things. Either publicly judge him to be irredeemably bad because he’s a bigot (as some have) or say he’s ignorant, and has alot to learn, but don’t focus on ‘oh my god, the words he just said are so awful.’ That just makes it go underground.
This resonates with me. I’m down with expressing disapproval on homo-hating, but the manner in which it’s expressed I think may have a pretty significant effect in the results achieved.
