It’s interesting that I first went vegan in chicago (I had been veganish up til then) while living in rogers park. And I was thinking it was soooo easy to be vegan in chicago. Having just come from pittsburgh.
And I reverted to veganish in chicago, after 5.5 years of veganism, while living in rogers park. Because it’s so hard being vegan in chicago. Having just come from minneapolis, and berkeley.
We’ll balance the world out as I’m scarily enough a ‘non-vegetarian’

Just don’t use “flexitarian” or the like. 😉 Those terms sound so silly…

I think I could do ovo-lacto-pisco long before I could go full vegan. It’s the 100% soy protein thing that would kill me eventually.
It’s tough being 100% vegan in general, particularly if you travel. Sometimes you’re starving and just want a bagel, ingredients be damned.
Berkeley makes me sad too, even though there are tons of veg options in DC. Most places in California I’ve vitisted just get it. There are no confused questions of, “Well why on earth wouldn’t you want cheese on that?”
cf. ordering pad thai w/ tofu and being asked, otherwise umprompted, “no egg in the pad thai?”
