So I want to
- do a daily workout (on day 3, aerobic only.)
- eat fresh fruit and vegetables (it’s good to have dreams)
- make friends with new chicago people (note this does not mean sleep with them)
- travel to interesting new places (like my recent trip to Seattle and Denver).
- do board games
- pursue my environmental interests
- level up my WoW characters to keep pace with friends
- read
Did I mention that I have a 8.75 hour work day, and a 1.75 hour roundtrip commute? Assuming 8 hours of sleep (why not assume a magical genie to grant wishes), that leaves 5.25 hours per day for all the above, as well as breakfast, dinner, and routine maintenance.
not. enough. time.
om GOD stephen WHY did you have to point this out! Grrr. 🙂
yes no WONDER i find it hard to get my 8 hours!
Combinations?
Can you combine exercise with commuting (ok, maybe not in chicago in winter…) or reading while commuting? In Pittsburgh, I read and did needlecrafts on my 45 minute bus ride all the time. If public transit is no good, what about carpooling? Might make new friends that way?
I’m a terrible multi-tasker, so I should probably go back to lurking. I understand the lack of time. I wish we had 30 or 36 hour days sometimes.
And I have the luxury of biking to work all year round. Although I don’t take advantage of it as much as I should.
Re: Combinations?
Winter is only a barrier if you let it be. There’s pretty magical equipment available these days to deal with the cold.
Re: Combinations?
Well, the L really is the best way to go in terms of travel. Especially if I move closer like I want to.
Biking to work was great when I could do it. In addition to being about 10 miles or more from work, there are no convenient bike lanes or trails, particularly when one hits downtown chicago. I know bike messengers do it, but I’m not quite so suicidal. =)
I too want to make new firend who don’t want to sleep with me and play board games and eat fruit!
Oh and on the plus side I also happen to livre in Chicago..
Nice.
In terms of board games, how do you feel about settlers of catan, puerto rico, amun-re, and the scepter of zavandor?
Regarding chicago, which part do you live in? =)
Um, I’ve not played any of those, thinking about it now I haven’t actually played a game in at least two years.
I’m in edgewater, so on a good day it is a 20 minute commute on the bus, not to say I actually leave work very often.
What I wouldn’t give for a 20 minute commute… =)
I should have specified that I’m into some unusual board games. =) They’re a little more intricate than the standard milton bradley fare. If you like analytical puzzles or brain games, you might very well like these games.
then I might very well enjoy such games.
Cool. We’ll have to arrange a chance to meet up at some point after turkey day.
Looks like you’ll have to prioritize.
I don’t know how my siblings with kids manage at all.
If I were to prioritize for you:
1) Exercise
2) Eat well
3) Board games
4) Travel
5) New Chicago friends (I put this below travel because you apparently don’t want to remain in Chicago for long)
Read on the train and while traveling.
Yeah, I’m not really sure about Chicago. It has a number of great features. And, if I were to leave GAO, there are other good places in town to work, such as the center for neighborhood technology and the city’s department of the environment. When I lived in Berkeley, I missed winter. I’m sure if I left chicago, there would be things I’d miss about it.
don’t know where you work downtown, but hannah’s bretzel at washington & wells is great for organic vegetables. their “vegetable bomb” sandwich is vegan and delicious. their sandwiches come with homemade chips or toasted almonds (!). as a regular, i.e., i ate there every day, i was often comped sandwiches and chocolate.
I will definitely have to check it out. Like, today.
Sadly, they are shy on seating (I tried to go there for lunch with a couple friends. Didn’t work. =) I shall return!
4 seats 🙂 sorry, i could have mentioned this. by “ate there every day,” i mean i went there every day, ordered a veggie bomb, and brought it back to my office on madison where i dined in style, with flatware. i’m glad you visited, and glad you’ll return!
