I’d like to send out a giant FUCK YOU to my new credit card for letting me transfer up to my balance limit, then tacking on an additional fee for the transfer, followed shortly by a fee for going over limit. Not to abdicate all responsibility, but credit cards definitely are the devil. Ugh.

they normally don’t charge balance transfer fees when you open a new card. I would talk about that with a manager there, and ask that the fees be refunded.
Some cards charge a 3% Balance Transfer fee up to some limit, even new cards.
I agree about calling and asking a manager to refund the fee. The situation you just described is one of the big complaints against CC companies’ fee structures.
