made an entry several weeks back, explaining the blow up over the Mohammed-insulting comics, which I wanted to point out to people (not sure if I ever got around to it, but if I did, it’s worth reposting). It seems pretty relevant, in a less serious way, when thinking about our local religious extremists and their hatred of freedom, specifically, my my freedom to suck dick. Thoughts?
There’s part of me that says that it would be surprising for a grass roots demonstration to have preprinted posters, but when you think about how easy it is to dodge into a shop, get some poster-printing software, whip together a master, & then head to Kinko’s to print out a batch, why wouldn’t they? On the other hand, what little I know of these kinds of demonstrations is that folks usually go for home-made posters…
In the other direction, yeah, I’m willing to believe that the right-wingnuts in these parts are deliberately cooking up “spontaneous” protests. It’s the same crowd that wants to shove their faith down everyone’s throat everywhere else, after all, & there’s enough evidence out there to show that the “intelligent design” crowd uses agents provocateurs to cow school boards and so forth.
