Apparently my iPod is a very delicate piece of machinery. This is the second time in the slightly over a year that it’s been in my possession that it’s broken. Since it’s slightly over a year, the warranty is toast. Great. Perhaps this is a sign that I should never be nit-picky with my gifts again. Bleh.
I bought a super-duper clamshell for mine, lest I drop it too often or just jostle it too much in my pocket. Nevertheless, I fear for its eventual demise. They are just so small and fragile for their intended portability.
Remember to protect your lifestyle investment.
I have the skin, but sadly, my ipod was purchased through HP. So, that’s who I have to deal with. Next time, Apple, all the way.
Wow, that’s lousy luck!
I assume you’ve tried a hard reset? So far, that’s always cured all my iPod ills, even on my 1st-day, 5-gig first-generation iPod. One time, I did have to do a “Factory Reset” in the iPod update application, which then also required having iTunes reload all my music data, but the next morning, all was well again.
Good luck!
I’m having problems with my ipod as well! Suspiciously right when the warrenty ended…coincidence???
iPods are portable hard disk drives that have small GUI capabilities – of course they are fragile, but to suggest (even mildly) that Apple manufactures them in such a way as to begin to break upon expiration of the warranty is kinda silly.
Well I wasn’t being serious 🙂 I rarely am 🙂
Browsing their website, I got the impression that the nano didn’t have a hard drive, perhaps solid state electronics, or maybe MRAM storage for all I know. But, under skip protection, they basically say it has no mechanical bits to worry about. Of course, it has very little memory, but I guess dem’s da breaks.
I haven’t operated a nano, but I assume it works on the same principle as a flash/jump drive.
Huh. I can’t say that either or I have had problems with either of ours. We’ve had hers for close to two years now, and it has survived numerous trips cross-country as well as a trip to Europe. My own hasn’t quite hit a year yet, but it has survived falling off my desk, and swinging into the file cabinets by its power cable several times, as well as a few trips cross-country and a trip to Europe, itself. But I have heard of others having problems. I guess we’re just more careful with ours in general (well, other than the times mine has swung into the file cabinet), or something.
Your treatment sounds about like mine. =)
Mine is about a year old, too, and I have had no trouble whatsoever with it. I credit my Contour Design Showcase for the excellent protection. Highly recommended!
Sitting on the bus today, I came up with the theory that all the jostling on public transportation was the problem, but this seems to bely that theory. Vertical jostling, of course. =)
apple figures you’ll upgrade before it breaks.
Mine have had an average life span of just over 6 months, so far.
It was also HP brand. Never again. If you walk into an apple store with a broken apple branded iPod, you walk out with a working one. HP made me call them, play with a customer support person for 20 minutes, and wait a couple weeks for a replacement.
