persistent maladaptive stress response

Note to self,

Getting hot & bothered, and filling up one’s social calendar in response to academic stress is about the worst idea possible. Please grow up.

Thanks,

me.

    1. If I can catch so much interest in so little time in Minneapolis, I’d certainly expect you to be able to get enough local guys in SF to keep you overoccupied. Consider it homework. 😉

        1. I meant it more as a dating reference (at least in terms of what I’ve been doing) which usually combines hanging out and sex for me. I think there is much to be said for simple hanging out. =)

  1. Speaking of that.. Tichu!

Click on Register and create an account. (You don’t have to, but it guarantees your user name and keep a log of what you play.)

    Go back to: http://www.brettspielwelt.info/

Click on Download and get the client. (Or click on play to do it 100% through Java, it’s a bit slower to load things… the client keeps iamges local to your harddrive.)

Okay, once you log on, it will look confusing. Don’t be frightened.

    type the following:
    /manager

that will get you to the main screen you need.

Click on the “Opponents” treasure chest, and that will list games that are looking for players. Find a Tichu game with less than 4 players, click anywhere in that area, and you’ll be teleported to that game. (Do not just click the “join” as it’s considered rude to join without asking first.) Once in the room, just ask to join the game. (Most people speak english, but “darf ich?” is a way of asking in German.)

There’s also menu shortcuts. The “GamePartner” window will show you all the people that are asking for players. It’s a window that scrolls along. If you see a game you want to join, just click on the correct line and it will teleport you there. Also, the Game Menu should have options like “join.”

Some of the games (like Puerto Rico) have some tricky interfaces. You can check out the rules and interfaces here:

For Tichu, the interface is extremely easy. Click on the “Gr. Tichu” button in the lower right corner. This will stop you cards at 8 and give you an option to call grand tichu. It’s a toggle button… so if you don’t want the cards to stop, just deselect it. To call Tichu before you play your first card, click on the “TICHU” button that is next to the “Gr. Tichu” button. Once you play your first card, that button will disappear.

A passing window window appears, so just click and drag the card you want to pass. Click OK when completed. The window is obvious… the left hand player gets the card on the left, partner gets the middle card, RHO gets the right card. Once everyone’s done, you’ll see who passed what, and you just click OK.

When playing cards, just click on them once and click “Play” when it’s your turn. If you want to pass, click “Pass.” You can’t pass if you have any cards selected. TIP: Right click and drag will allow you to move the cards in your hand around. Very handy.

If you have a bomb, you’ll see a “BOMB IT!!!” button. Click it anytime to interrupt play and play a bomb. This is really useful, because a lot of people miss straight flushes in their hand.

The special cards are easy to you. “I request a…” will appear for the 1. Click “X” to not wish. Use Phoenix as… After you play the dragon a box will appear and you choose which opponent to give it to.

And if you register, do the following:
    /add watch arkibet
    /save
    /room C10
@send arkibet my user id is xxxxx

that way, I’ll add you to my watchlist, and will be notified when you’re on line. If you want some handholding when you first want to play, let me know and I’ll meet you on BSW.

    1. Re: Speaking of that.. Tichu!

Hmmm, not sure if it worked, but I did that several weeks ago and occasionally come on and play a game or two. Our schedules may just not be coinciding. Anyway, the username I chose is scu.

Also, how do I start up a game if there are currently no open games. I thought that was what I did, but then nobody ever drops into the game, which makes me think it’s probably not being displayed. Help? =)

      1. Re: Speaking of that.. Tichu!

        Try this:

        1.) Enter the room.
        2.) /join
–you’ll be the only player so far.
        3.) /gameyell TICHU!!!!
–This will announce that you’re looking for players.
–You can repeat this step every minute or so.
