First, this weekend, I had some Thai, and I was willing and able to eat it in quantities more than a few bites. I may have to revise my intense aversion to Thai food to a more tentative distaste. I’ll experiment and see if my tastes have changed. Finding that I now enjoy Thai would be a most welcome discovery. Here’s hoping.
This weekend I also observed (bragged? It’s so hard to tell with me sometimes) that I hadn’t puked in over 10 years (indeed, I’m pretty sure it was closer to 20). Which was true… up until about 30-45 minutes ago. I don’t know if it was
Feeling that the problem hadn’t completely resolved itself, I got out of bed, grabbed a towel, and wrapped it around myself, for the very short jaunt to the bathroom. I managed to kneel down in front of the Porcelain Goddess before wave 2, but I did not manage to raise the seat. Wave 3 finally made it into Her sacred watery place.
Feeling considerably restored, I promptly set about cleaning up after myself right where I was. It took me a few minutes to realize that the bed should have been a higher priority. Indeed, it had soaked through to the mattress. Even through my comforter. The cloth things are now going through the washing machine. I’ve covered the affected mattress bits with baking soda on general odor absorbing principle (later affirmed by interweb instructions. Other suggestions for this part are quite welcome and appreciated). The bathroom is probably as clean as its ever been since we moved in (though I wonder how long the smell will linger). Generally none the worse for the wear, and a little more conscious of my own fallible humanity. =)
More information, please
In general, for stain and smell, I recommend Woolite’s OxyClean solution – spray on, blot up with paper towels, repeat. You can use a vinegar/water solution in a spray bottle as a substitute for that (but you may find the vinegar solution worse than the problem).
Let it dry entirely and vaccum it if you can. Also, “Nature’s Miracle” from PetSmart works well on dog puke, I bet it’ll work on yours.
Check to make sure all the cloth things are stain-free before putting them in the dryer. Salsa-in-puke sounds like it will stain.
Re: More information, please
Sorry, I titled that because I was wondering what kind of mattress we’re talking about, but then I realized the general tips are the same.
If you’ve got a foam mattress, that makes the whole thing a harder task. If it’s just fabric, all of the above + some time in a sunlit room airing and drying out should take care of it.
Ick. Sounds like much fun with the puking. I somehow doubt it’s salsa and chips though… or PB&J…
Congratualtions on the Thai thing. At least bad news comes with some good news. If I remember correctly though, some sauces have egg in them, so you’ll want to check.
Just think, you can eat lots of rice today while your stomach is settling.
You enjoy puns on your name. You want I should make you much grubbier? =)
How much grubbier can I get? Hmm, don’t answer that…
Oh no!!! Sorry to hear about your “incident.” I haven’t puked since I was 16, and I’m sure hoping it NEVER EVER happens again. But now my faith is shaken…
Hope you’re feeling better.
