WoW is on

So, I took the plunge, and got WoW. And I have a dyky lookin’ level 8 gnome mage engineer called gnulica (any intimation of ‘cunnilingus’ you can draw from that name is purely intentional)

Servers so far are

Server Character(s) people to play with
Proudmoore Gnulica Vice & Valour guild (particularly for , , and a certain friend from long ago that I hope to surprise.)
Kamuul (tauren shaman lvl 6) vnv
Daggerspine Kolah (dwarven paladin w/ Princess Leia hairbuns) , , ,
Scarlet Crusade (RP server) tbd horde CS Lounge folk(?) I am uncertain if this includes anyone I know particularly well, so I’m waiting for confirmation before actually doing this
tbd

Other characters I would like to create include

  • night elf druid (totally cliched, I know)
  • orc hunter (feral female engineer in loincloth)
  • undead priest (I turn myself!)
  • human warlock (Hey, I’m a good guy, ignore the gibbering hellspawn)
  • troll rogue
  • tauren warrior

Any persons wishing to join and I may submit your application, please be sure to sign in human blood (bonus points if its someone else’s). We plan on playing our characters as sorta background characters, and only playing together, not our main characters. The rest of the plans are far more laid back, but playing with friends, to chat with if nothing else, is always good.

  1. I’ve had a lot of fun with my rogue (Eom) and druid (Atlian). If you play those be sure to be Restoration specced for the Druid, and I’d recommend combat for the rogue.

    1. World of Warcraft, it’s a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game. More complex/involved (in terms of game mechanics) than City of Heroes, less so than Final Fantasy XI. In terms of plot, that’s debatable, and I haven’t really taken any of them far enough to know, but I suspect WoW wins on that one with FFXI in a narrow second.

WoW is the only one of the three to have a francise set up around it, though. City of Heroes taps into the comic book hero zeitgeist, but not any specific comic book hero set of characters, locations, ongoing plotlines, etc.

Final fantasy basically invents a new world for every version that gets put out, and I’m completely serious on that point. There are elements present in all of them, but they are configured differently in each one.

The world in which WoW is set started with Warcraft I, then wc2, then wc3. There was a single player adventure game which got canned before release, and probably had significant chunks of the project recycled into WoW. I’ve played wc2 and wc3, and frozen throne, the wc3 expansion. Blizzard, the makers of warcraft, have also made starcraft, diablo, and diablo II, each of which came with an expansion, all of which I’ve played (well, except for the diablo expansion). I don’t remember much of a plot from wc2, but wc3 had a pretty significant plot with memorable characters, etc, etc. And many of those characters, particularly from the expansion, are prominent figures in WoW.

I’d be happy to answer any questions that you have, but I’m not sure if I’m getting to the parts which most capture your attention.

      1. You must not get out much if you aren’t aware of the Final Fantasy franchise. I have a tonberry ornament hanging from my rear view mirror.

        1. Good point.

But, my impression that blizzard has done more of this sort of thing than squaresoft remains. I’ve never seen a ff rpg or novel for instance. Nor have I ever attended a blizzard ‘music of warcraft’ concert.

          1. There’s probably close to a hundred musical releases for the series, dozens of manga, and multiple anime releases. I can’t even begin to count the numver of stuffed animals and figurines produced for the series. I haven’t seen anything of the sort from blizzard except for a couple of soundtracks and maybe a couple dozen action figures. If anything, squaresoft has done a lot more than blizzard.

            1. On just tonberries: There have been about a dozen stuffed tonberries released, and my fiancee has about half of them, including the limited run xmas tonberry (It’s a tonberry wearing a santa outfit and holding a present or something instead of the usual lamp. It’s amazingly cute.) She is very sad that she was unable to grab one of the life-sized ~3 foot stuffed ones. I believe that she has about 6 of the original run FF7 tonberries, maybe 4 of the FFX tonberries, two FFX tonberry cell phone straps, and her prized santa tonberry. She also has a couple stuffed cactaurs lying around.

              1. PS – Yes, it’s disturbing that she can tell you the “vintage” of a tonberry. FFX tonberries are not as well made.

      2. I’m not familiar with any of the games you mentioned. I played Final Fantasy many years ago on the Nintendo (the now museum artifact version), marching around with 4 black wizards in my party for 4 days trying not to get killed by imps, but other than that I’m ignorant of such video games.

I also fiddled with tabletop rpgs like D&D, Vampire, and Champions, but was mostly just babbling and staring at a crush who dragged me into it. O:-)

        1. 4 black wizards? You wanted to blast the first enemy into a finely powdered dust and then get bent over a barrel right afterwards? =)

Actually, ffxi has 6 starting class options for the game in question. The same 6 from the first final fantasy game.

I haven’t done much with champions, and Vampire is a bit too goth and political for my taste, but in my early teens, I could have quoted chapter & verse from the D&D manuals. Though it was AD&D 2nd edition at the time… =)

          1. I’ve always been fascinated by black magic. Other D&D-like stuff just didn’t cut it. I eventually gave up on that black wizard thing, though, and used more typical parties (fighter, white, black, and something else–I forget what #4 was).

I also was playing AD&D (2d ed.)–I was just too lazy to type all that.

Vampire was just morbid and nasty enough for my tastes.

            1. Monk, red mage, or thief for the last character. They were all decent options.

Have you checked out the other World of Darkness games? Werewolf, Mage, Wraith, Changeling, and Hunters? Also, shadowrun, cyberpunk and paranoia may appeal.

  2. undead priest (I turn myself!)

I’m at a loss to completely explain why, but I find that to be just about the funniest thing ever.

Did I ever say hi? I may not have. Er…hi. 🙂
