I want to make a donation to some charity providing relief efforts for the tsunami, but there’s the homophobia factor for various orgs. And, the one recommendation I saw that specifically mentioned a non-anti-homo service provider recommended MSF, which naturally got me thinking of
I think in this case you should be more concerned with the immeadiate need of those you wish to help.
That being said, what about http://www.unicef.org/?
IRC does good work.
It largely depends on who the field supervisor is, but as a whole IRC has been doing good work. MSF may have a nobel prize but people on the ground who have worked around them have differing opinions. (like mine).
However, IRC (international Rescue comittie) has stuck it out in places that MSF has abandoned. They were one of the first into Iraq during the hot cycle of the war, and into Darfur for a while. I met one of their people Roberta Gately when I was in Iraq, she got to witness the MSF fiasco as well. It’s one of the reasons she went to IRC.
Do a search under her and you’ll get some news items.

Thanks for the info. I am checking them out. The url, if you’re ever passing a reference on them to other folks, is http://www.theirc.org.
CARE international
They have people on the ground in several of the countries hit, and the work they did in Iraq was great.
CARE INTERNATIONAL
As far as I know they are value neutral as to a person’s favorite orifice to penetrate.
The donation process was easy and they accepted almost any kind of payment, and – on a more personal note – I feel kind of attached to this group as Margarat Hassan from here in Baghdad worked for them till an insurgent group executed her on video.
Help em’ out if you want. Somewhere a thirsty Sri Lankan kid will be happy you did.
