In chicago

I’m back in chicago, it’s time for the gay games, and sadly, I’m unwell. I have a throat and ear thing which makes me think swimming may be ill-advised. I’m currently covered under my minnesota based student health insurance, and my local health insurance doesn’t start until a week from monday, when my job starts, after the games are over. Tuesday’s event would preclude me heading out to the burbs to hang with and . Additionally, my master’s swimming membership has apparently lapsed, which I need to participate.

But most importantly, when you get right down to it, swimming doesn’t do much for me anymore. I used to love it for its meditative qualities. Then I discovered yoga. Big gay things don’t really do much for me anymore either. These days, I prefer to celebrate my sexuality in more modestly sized events, like dates and orgies.

I’m not sure if my mysterious mouth scratches/lesions/whatever responded well to my vitamin C megadose and first protein shake in forever, or if they were just going away anyway, but that’s much better now. My lymph node(s) under my jaw are feeling better, though still tender. I’m going to set up a little appointment with the local gblt health clinic, which is holding special hours for the gay games.

Fun stuff. More retrospective travelogue stuff to come.

Final week

This is the start of my final week on the road. I think I will greatly enjoy my time in Toronto, but I’m pretty much ready for the travel to end. I have trepidation about work. But it went well last summer, and I didn’t want to leave at the end. I see no reason to expect that to change.

So, I just saw Avenue Q. Totally awesome. It is very funny, and occasionally touching, and full of great observations about life. Plus the singer/puppeteer with top billing is really cute. And “Gary Coleman” reminded me soooo much of .

I’m now on the roof of the building where I will spend my last two nights in NYC, in SOHO. I have a great view of what I think is the Empire State Building. Yay, New York!

Remaining travel plans

In retrospect it occurs to me that just zooming through montreal could be a little rude. If anyone there would like to meet me, and would be willing to put me up on a couch or the like for July 11th, I’d be happy to spend a day in your fair city. Or I could get off my ass and get a hostel room, but the primary point is that someone has to want to meet me for me to change my train plans. =)

Musical Options

So, I’m going to be in NYC.

I’m thinking I should see a musical. Sadly, I can only see one on tuesday, so, I need guidance for which should be my top choice.

What do you think I should see?

[EDIT: Please leave a comment telling me why you recommend one or the other, if you would]

If you have other suggestions for what I should do with Monday evening, I’m all ears.

Places to go, things to see, people to meet, stuff to do, and restaurants to eat at are all valid categories. What do you like most about NYC?

Ouch

3 days in a midtown manhattan hotel costs more than 1 month in a chicago apartment. Yikes. That’s going to hurt later.

[EDIT: Okay, I found a guest house for a much more reasonable $50/night. It’s a bit out of the way, but I figure $100/day is more than sufficient for all my cab fare needs. =)]

Next Steps

Options to consider:

Do I take off on Sunday the 2nd or Monday the 3rd? (maybe getting to see if the latter).

Do I go straight to nyc, or take a day in philly? (if the 2nd, once again, I might get to see )

Do I stay until the 5th or the 6th?

Do I meet [up with] interesting lj’ers in nyc (or philly), or whomever I happen to bump into?

Do I stay in a hostel near the train station, or beg lj’ers to put me up?

Or do I take a more radical plan and head down to DC to hang with familiar people? (who’ll probably see me in a month or so anyway when I’m out for GAO training. =)
