Athletic Ambitions / Linguistic Ambitions / Apartment Hunt

I want to run a 10 miler at the end of April, another at the end of May, and the chicago triathlon (at least sprint, if not olympic distance) in August. Getting in the habit of working out daily has been a goal for awhile. Maybe this will motivate me. I also have a couple of people who want to do this with me (at least the 10 miler). ++ and ++

I also want to take those Spanish classes I’ve been talking about for over a year, probably starting in March.

My roommate wants to move to some place nicer. I want to be closer to a whole foods, and to a decent, not toooo expensive gym. We may end up shelling out $900 apiece + utils. That would make me a little sad, but I’ll get over it.

I’m so over the radiator heat that’s only on for certain portions of the day, that has no associated thermostat. I’m over single pane, cracked windows. I’m over having to walk outside to do laundry. And damn wouldn’t it be nice to have a dishwasher in the unit.

My monday evening

Gravity and ice conspired against me and now I’m limping. Sadness.

this was on the 12 minute walk from the belmont station, to a potential new apartment. 3BR, about the same size as my current (excessively large) 2BR. But it has central heat and air as well as in unit laundry. Score.

Spatial arrangement would limit the potential size of my board game and dinner parties to current size or smaller. My feelings are mixed on that. Rent would be a little cheaper with a third. Roommate didn’t come with me to check the place out, despite saying he would. Not sure what’s up with that.

Afterwards, I waaay overate at flat top grill, which is right there. hmmmm.

Was going to make lentil stew tonight for potluck at ‘s tomorrow, but soooo tired. And standing makes the knee hurt. Very sad. =(

A missed milestone and “cheer up emo kid”

I thought that I’d worked for Ro for something like a year and 7 months. Well, it was closer to a year, 6 months, and a week, as it so happens. Turns out I’ve already worked for my current employer longer than I worked for Ro. And while I have complaints about my employer (of course) I don’t feel an urgent need to exit. Plus, the nutjobs seem to like me.

I feel like I’m stagnating, and like this job, for all its wonderful task change, won’t break me out of the rut. This evening after work the new hires were out at a bar, and we were talking about stuff. One of the topics that came up was the simple model that encompasses 90% of our titles. “Progress has been made, but further work is necessary.” I’ve been lucky to get more interesting work than that mostly.

If I’m being opportunistic about my employment, I certainly haven’t milked this experience for all that it’s worth. Another rapid raise likely awaits me in July. I’ve been told that a promotion within a year (or a little over that) is certainly not out of the question.

My love life is in a “no prospectives and no good source for new prospectives” mode. The last one was either not interested, or excessively busy, which amounts to the same thing, really.

Housing is changing in a couple months. Less than that. By april. Need to get ass in gear on hunt. The roommmate still doesn’t know whether he’ll be here or in LA in April. Great. I could just up and move to Seattle, without severely compromising the fiscal gains or chance at promotion. But completely resetting my social life.

My life ain’t so bad. Why don’t I just enjoy it where it is?

second date rescheduled: game night on & vancouver

Well, I was going to have a date this evening. Instead I get to go to a game night. Perhaps I’ll have that second date another day.

Also I want to go to vancouver for 3 or 4 days over president’s day weekend, if I can get the discount air fare. Still not sure what I’d do out there. But I want to check it out. Suggestions?

My week in review (aka did someone get the number of the semi that hit me?)

  • A very good first date on monday (yay for federal holidays)
  • Tuesday morning CPR and AED training,
  • Tuesday evening at kmanista and tyedie‘s apt where I hid in a pile of blankets while feeling unwell. I recovered
after everyone left and ate half the cookies.

  • Wednesday union meeting where I volunteered, over objections, to herd the cats for the constitution the interim council is supposed to be writing (you know, the central task for the interim council).
  • Wednesday evening board games, where I taught Phoenicia (this is my second time playing the game, and my first since September).
  • Thursday, running the last weekly status update on my current project.
  • Thursday evening, got back home just in time to pick up my Cowon D2 from the UPS store before they closed. Ran Heroic Slave Pens with the guildies.
  • Friday spending hours wrangling a data analysis which produces numbers with variations in the third significant figure.
  • Friday evening, spending hours discussing organizing the queers from the local UU church and things we’d like to do, including networking with queers from other groups. Chat with one of the ‘mos from the group for a bit back at his place.
  • Saturday afternoon, run Karazhan with guild, skipping animal boss, but taking down Attumen, Moroes, Maiden, Opera (Oz) and the Curator. Significantly outperformed by non-guild raid members.
  • Saturday evening, board games with Dean, Dean, moved, Johnny, Spencer, Josh and Eric. (We played Citadels, Thurn and Taxis, Race for the Galaxy (twice), family guy themed Uno(?) and Blokus).

I still have to get some data analysis specification documents and an agenda for the constitution people done before tomorrow.

Plans for today.

  • gym
  • Church, including discussion with a very involved church member about my experiences at 2U.
  • Maybe WoW time? (probably not. There was discussion of finishing up Karazhan, but I think we’ll lack a critical mass, and I have too much else to do.)
  • Cooking food for the upcoming week
  • board games in the evening with Spencer/Pitt/Paul/Tres, maybe?
