So, about the medals thing. Personally, it annoyed me. Back in my livejournal, after I saw Kerry’s speech, I was complaining about how I don’t care about his military service.<\/p>\n

But you did talk later on in your response about the characteristics of leadership. During the Vietnam war, Kerry went far away from home, led men, saved lives, got injured in process, etc. Bush signed up with the national guard, and when asked about a supposed absence from duty, he froze his records. And only eventually allowed them to see the light of day after they’d been edited. My understanding is that even then, they didn’t address the issue in question.<\/p>\n

So, why does this matter? Well, based on this, we have reason to suspect that when danger abounds, bush will do his best to keep himself safe, while kerry will risk his own safety\/health\/life\/etc to defend others. Which do you prefer in a leader, self interest, or a desire to help others so great that he’ll put himself in harm’s way?<\/p>\n

He also, I might point out, saved a republican senator (Hecht) who was choking back in ’88. Just to note that his benevolence seems to cross party lines.<\/p>\n

Now, tax cuts. Would you like to leave our elderly without health care or without housing? Or would you like to scale back funding of our armed forces? That’s where anywhere from half to 3\/4 of your income tax is going, generally speaking.<\/p>\n

Or maybe you’d like to scale back the funding of education, highway construction, and other investments? Or maybe you like what bush did, put it all on ‘credit card’ for the next generation to pay off.<\/p>\n

Abortion, I can understand religious disapproval, but I urge you to consider the rational side of the discussion. In particular, for a balanced take on abortion, check out: http:\/\/www.ithaca.edu\/faculty\/cduncan\/230\/adoption.htm<\/p>\n

And if a proper leader takes the burdens he would put on others before doing so, shouldn’t bush look into adopting a few kids?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
