It wasn’t a transcendent experience, I did zone out occasionally, mostly when (to be kind) people with a weaker economics background than myself asked for clarification. My feelings at the time were more along the lines of people who shouldn’t be in this course asking him to restate the obvious. But, it looks like an interesting course. The prof was distantly, skeptically, supportive. (ie “Yeah, that sounds like the right thing to do, it could definitely improve your chances of getting in; bring in the thing for me to sign next class, people slack less when they’re graded. next in line, please”). He did perk up a little when I described my work as “making sense of seemingly senseless data”. Hope that percolates to good ends. Perhaps they have need of clever data manipulation in their economic and statistical modeling projects. Hmmmm. =)

I want to do all the readings for this course. Ideally, I would make friends with several of my classmates and study with them. Didn’t do so good a job of that in the first session. Have to work on that for the next one.

Came out to discover a flat rear tire on my bike (sucko, so much for my plans to drop by home before heading down to visit Josh). Dropped it off at missing link, then got on bart to head towards milbrae. Got off a stop early, missed the caltrain and was something like half an hour late to mview. Grrr. Stupid, slow public transportation and low density housing which only supports that. Did I mention I was reading “Geography of Nowhere” on the ride? Thanks <lj user=leafyleafy> for the recommendation, and Berkeley public library for the book. A review of the first half of it, with select excerpts will follow.

A pleasant indian dinner with Josh. Back to his place, where I met Seth, and a game of scrabble ensued. Fun was had by all. Stayed up way later than usual (1:30amish) talking with Josh. Air matress goodness, then up at 7:30 (late for me these days. so much exposure to sun (south facing bedroom window) has definitely influenced my hours). Take the train back to berkeley.

get my bike back, and charges were only $.75 more than estimated for the repair, yay. Bike home, find my “new” laptop waiting. Yay. =) Spend much effort trying to get it to dance to my will. Lunch with Marco. Back to the laptop. As I’m discovering that I have to reinstall everything, I get a call from Ro telling me that he needs my hours for the past two months (info stored at the office) pronto. Grumble, grumble. Go down, actually get some work in, while I’m down there. Decide not to do gaming (biking the 6 miles there, not a prob. Biking 6 miles uphill, late at night, ugh, not worth two hours of fun), gym time, then home and laptop play, also made tasty oatmeal cookies, in raisin, plain, and chocolate chip varieties. Also discovered that a) Matt has found a new place, not terribly far, just down in the plains and b) Simon and Matt have gotten into Puerto Rico (the game) this summer. Excellent. Mwahahahaha. =)

Which brings us to today. Time for gym & work. <sigh>

[1

post-514","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
