Since living with my parents, in order I have lived in a hotel with this korean guy; a 4 person dorm room with three proto-frat boys(each of those for a matter of days); one single; a 2 person frat-house cell with <lj user=visionline> for the summer; a 2 person room in an 8 person campus ‘apartment’ with Leon as well as <lj user=katharos>, Jen Rhode, <lj user=ts4z>, <lj user=bn29>, Aiton Goldman, and <lj user=jessed>; a professor’s house with his psycho misogynist dog; in choli lightfoot’s dorm room; in <lj user=firimari>‘s dorm room; in a 2 BR apartment with Dan Root; in a 2 BR apartment with Dan Root and Leon (bad idea); in a 3 BR apartment with Choli and <lj user=dr4b>; in a 4 BR apartment with Brandon Crawford, <lj user=tardis>, <lj user=ls56>, and the cycling 5th roommate of Karl and Janet, Andrea May-She-Rot-In-Hell Ward, and nobody, followed by a different 4 BR (phillips house) with <lj user=tardis>, Elaine Ramundo, and <lj user=ls56> (I think); an efficiency by myself for the better part of a year; back to the phillips house for a summer with <lj user=tardis>, my little sister Jane, Will Wong, and Dan Hooke. (Tom lived in the ‘cave’ underneath the porch that has since been converted into an office). Then began my chicago adventures. 2 weeks at a 2 BR in boystown with Jeremy; 2 months in a schaumburg 2 BR with Stephen Christopher Starkey, 3 months in a Wicker Park 2 BR with Stephen again, and eventually Kyle; 3 months in a 2 BR with Grrrr, Glenn-Paul Nelson, and Paul, uh, uh, damn I ought to remember his last name. Then 3 months in a Hyde Park 1 BR. Back to Pittsburgh. Crashing at <lj user=firimari>‘s place for 2 weeks before moving into a 2 BR with <lj user=red_haired_girl> though she spent much of her time with <lj user=gregoradon> (and I’m not certain which of them I’m more jealous of). I spent most of my time at the Phillips house (occupied by <lj user=tardis>, Nat Manista, <lj user=antioch523>, Bryan Bailey, and <lj user=cdwfs> (who was on the lease, but there only marginally more often than I, damn grad school)). Then Berkeley/Oakland, on Simon’s couch for half a month, in 3BR with Simon, Abram, & Joon, and now 4BR in Oakland, with <lj user=radi0actv>, Simon & Abram.

I suppose I ought to give credit to <lj user=innsmouth> as another home away from home during the Choli and Dee years, while we were dating, and to a lesser extent during the rotating psycho housemate years. As well as for the continued use of his couch in mountainview, when I feel like going to irc tea on a tuesday. (Thank you, Josh)

But that’s a digression. I like roommates. It gives me something to do when I stay home without moping & stuff. As it is, I spend enough time, and then some, navel-gazing. I used to think of myself as a severe loner. But I’m not really. I like being connected to society, but not tied down. An open-hearted wanderer, I suppose you could say. Enh. Enough of that, back to the job hunt.

And, btw, logging your mail, and going back to it years later is … thought provoking.

… [added later]

And then there was what I meant to say. Which is that I’ve found the roommates that worked best for me were the friend of a friend, geeks without love lives who I sorta knew, but didn’t really know at all well before living with them.

[1

post-256","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
