While the country may be more polarized than it’s been in my lifetime, but I don’t need to go much earlier to find far greater polarization. Riots in berkeley where the national guard was called out occurred in the 60’s. I definitely don’t need to go back to the civil war. <\/p>\n
I still believe in Jefferson’s quote: “I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education.
